bmw 1 2011

As you have noticed, over the past few months we have tried to keep you up to date with all the latest news about the future generation BMW 1 Series. As 2009 has been for BMW a dry year in terms of new releases (just compare it with Volkswagen or Daimler), all eyes are on the manufacturer to see what it has planned for both 2010 and 2011.

For now we bring new CGIs showing the way the 2011 1 Series will look like. As you can see for yourselves, the five door version rendered here shows the 1 Series will not change much in terms of overall look. The car boasts the same design cues as seen on the current series, except the front fascia.
The headlamps on the 2011 version are now swept up, a feature which together with the restyled kidney-grille make for a more aggressive look than on the "sad" current version. The front spoiler has also been redesigned, as the two sides of the spoiler now come towards the middle. The fog lamps are no longer under the spoiler, but on it and more to the center.

Some changes on the 1 Series are expected from the engines standpoint. As is the trend in the industry, BMW will go for smaller displacement turbocharged engines instead of the bigger ones. The 1 Series will share its powerplants with the 3 Series, expected to be introduced at around the same time. Below you can see what those engines will be:

  • 116i - 1.35 liters I3, 122hp/190Nm
  • 118i - 1.35 liters I3, 150hp/220Nm
  • 120i - 1.35 liters I3, 180hp/260Nm
  • 123i - 1.80 liters I4, 204hp/300Nm
  • 125i - 1.80 liters I4, 240hp/350Nm
But that's not all about the future 1 Series. The German manufacturer is also said to be working on a so-called "Supersport" version of the 1 Series. According to some reports, the Supersport will be positioned between the 135iS and the future M3. A 1 Series GT version is said also to be in the works.
